Originally, M systems only supported dumb terminal connections to development environments. These interfaces were based on traditional roll and scroll technology. One important aspect of evolving M to objects was to present the new technology within an ubiquitous Windows presentation layer. Consequently, what evolved was a presentation layer that used the latest Windows technology to present all the browsers and editors needed to develop an object oriented database application.
